This is a portfolio of my best work from COMM 316.
This semester allowed me to develop and increase my personal style and photography skills. In this portfolio blog post, I’m including my best work from my COMM 316 photography course. I love how COMM 316 allowed me to expand my photography skills and take some awesome photos.
I was able to identify my personal style by creating a fall lookbook.
To identify my personal style I decided to create a lookbook. For this personal style project, I was able to display what I love most about photography, which is people.
To create my fall lookbook I did three different types of photoshoots; couple photos, family photos, and senior photos. These are the main types of photos I would like to take as a photographer for clients. Once I did these photoshoots I edited them and posted them in their own blog posts. The blog posts links are below. I was able to take over 30 new photos for this project and display 22 in the lookbook. Fall Couple Photos
Nothing is more romantic than dead leaves and the cold, right? Well maybe not so much, however, Fall is a great time to take couple photos. In the fall the lighting is rarely as harsh as it is in the summer. This allows for good lighting throughout the day not just in the morning and evening. Fall couple photos also provide lots of colors and a variety of poses. For these photos, I put together a little photoshoot with two married couples. I was able to capture more of the fall details, by using a reflector so that I could expose the background and the subject. Fall couple photos are very fun to capture and allowed me to capture some fun photos for some awesome couples.
Fall Senior Portraits
Senior portraits are so important to capture. I love taking senior portraits because I love working with someone one on one to get what they want. For these fall senior portraits, the senior and I talked about where he wanted his pictures done. He expressed that he wanted them outdoors with trees and nature. We came up with a few locations for his senior portraits and ultimately decided to take them in Teton County. I really love how these fall senior portraits turned out and I cannot wait to take more.
Fall Family Photos
Taking family photos is one of my favorite things to photography. Fall is one of the best time to take family photos. I love all the colors I am able to capture in the family photo shots during the fall. For these photo shoots I wanted to emphasis the relationships in the family. My favorite photo is the photo of the grandparents smiling at each other. I love how you can see they joy they have for each other in the photo. Family photos are great ways to capture moments of a family and are so special to look back on over the years.
Doing landscape photography during golden hour helps to capture some awesome shots.
There are a lot of photos that I have taken and didn’t think much about. While gathering photos to create this golden hour landscape blog I realized that there are a lot of photos that I look over without realizing I could edit them into awesome photos. Taking photos during golden hour and blue hours opens up avenues for different kinds of photos. Because of the low exposure, I was able to capture photos of blurry water and do some light painting. Golden hour is the last few hours of sunlight where it creates a golden like glow. Blue hour is the last hour before sunset where there is a blue-like light.
While exploring the Tetons and Jackson Hole I was able to capture some awesome photography shots.
It was a beautiful day in the Tetons and Jackson Hole, I was non stop taking pictures. I was able to take some awesome shots on the way to Grand Teton National Park. I was able to take pictures of a mountain range in the morning going through a mountain pass. This created an awesome morning fog shot. I was also able to take pictures of a waterfall near Jackson Hole, Wyoming. While I was visiting the Tetons I was able to take some pictures of an awesome lake as well as some cool shoots of the mountains and wildlife. This excursion showed me that there is so much to the Tetons and Jackson Hole.
There are amazing sites to see in Yellowstone and Island Park, I was able to capture them using photography.
So much of landscape photography is the lighting and the angles of the photos. I was able to take a lot of landscape photos in Yellowstone and Island Park back in October. While in Island Park I was able to take some really cool photos. I took the photos in the early morning and afternoon in Island Park. Since the sun was not all the way out I was able to capture some blurry water photos and some cool sunrise photos.
In Yellowstone I was able to take some cool photos of the landscape and wildlife. When taking photos of wildlife it was important to use a zoom lens to catch close up details. When I was taking photos of the landscape in Yellowstone I used a wide angle lens to capture a lot of detail. I really like how these pictures turned out.
This male fashion shoot helped me to capture detailed photos.
For my male fashion shoot photos, I wanted to capture some detailed and professional worthy photos. I really love how the fashion photos turned out. They not only showed off the models and their clothes but the angles and lighting turned out great. One thing was research what kind of positions I wanted the male models to use. This helped me on the day of the fashion shoot to have quick references to refer to. While editing these photos I was able to enhance the photos. In one of the fashion shoot photos, I added a logo to make it look like it could be in a catalog.

Using light and creative angles I was able to capture some cool photos from my female fashion shoot.
This female fashion shoot was captured in a barn and around the barn property in Rexburg, Idaho. My goal with female fashion photos was to show creative and modern poses. I wanted to make sure that the angles on the models were flattering. I got a lot of ideas from Pinterest on how I wanted them positioned. Editing these photos was fun too because it allowed me to make the photos unique to my style. Female fashion shoots are something I would love to organize and do again. This was a fun and quick way to capture a variety of models and clothing styles.
Something else I was able to do while editing one of the female fashion shoot photos was add a logo to make the photo look like something from a catalog.
